My Grandmother: The Original FlyyGirl

The following is an excerpt from some remarks that I made at my Grandmother's homegoing service on Friday, January 21, 2021.

God Fearing, Jubilant, Graceful, Loving, and Strong are some of the many words that could be used to describe my Grandmother, but as I combed over her pictures for the obituary and really began to ponder about her legacy, I realized that my grandmother was an original FlyyGirl.

Her smile was radiant.

Her confidence was sky high.

Her class,

charm

and dignity

set her apart from the rest.

She was a kept woman,

Classy and regal.

Sophisticated and majestic.

One of the most sharp dressers I have ever seen.

For my 21st birthday, I decided to throw a fashion show. I told my grandmother about my plans and she was so excited that she allowed me to pick clothes from her closet.

Precious fabrics;

Satin, silk, sequins

Bright and vibrant colors;

Purple and Gold

To remind us of our royalty she said.

She took great pride in her family and loved us from her heart.

She made mistakes, but she didn't let them define her.

She went through trials and tribulations like anyone else,

but she had the confidence and faith that God would see her through...

and he did.

Time after time

after time.

Thank you for teaching me to be strong.

Thank you for showing me how to be confident.

Thank you for being Flyy

&& ALWAYS

encouraging and empowering me to do the same.

I will forever cherish your memory granny.
